Finance for sustainability in Sierra Leone

Invest Salone and the Bank of Sierra Leone met on 13 December 2022, to discuss the next steps in the sustainable finance roadmap, which is intended to help integrate sustainability into Sierra Leone’s financial system and guide its response to major environmental, social and governance challenges.

The meeting was attended by Professor Kelfala Kallon, Governor at Bank of Sierra Leone, Sheikh Alhaji Yayah Sesay – Deputy Governor, Financial Stability and directors and senior staff at the bank.  Professor Kallon said the bank supported the principles of sustainable finance and that its role in the process would primarily be to drive financial inclusion and ensure financial stability.

It was agreed that entrepreneurial and management practices need to improve for businesses to reap the full rewards of wider access to capital, and that mobilising capital for Sierra Leone’s underserved and the unbanked should be a priority.
